This will be my third school year with New West and I am excited for the opportunity to get to know your kids this year! I am teaching English 8 and the Book Club elective.
Background Prior to New West, I worked at The City School in West LA and Mirman School for the Gifted in Bel Air. Both of these experiences, as varied and unique as they were, helped solidify the foundations and practices of my teaching and curriculum. My educational experience includes a B.A. in English from the University of Delaware and a M.A.T. in Secondary English from Stony Brook University. Before returning to school for my graduate degree, I worked in journalism for several years. I also minored in journalism and philosophy during my undergraduate studies. Teaching Philosophy I value getting students to read for enjoyment, having them write authentic, challenging pieces of writing, and helping them grow into lifelong learners. My background in socio-emotional learning, social justice-based curriculum, and gifted education allows me to work with a variety of learners, ensure that they are getting support beyond the traditional curriculum, and are constantly opening their eyes to new experiences and perspectives. I look forward to sharing my experiences, skills, and interests with the students as they grow as readers, writers, and learners this year. |
